Subject: Ozzfest at Nissan Pavilion...
Date: Sat, 19 Jun 1999 10:23:17 -0400
In case you are wondering, the Nissan Pavilion is in N. Virginia, west of
D.C. Better late than never I say. This all day concert was absolutely
awesome. I tried to see as many bands as I could. Slipknot was very
different, but cool. The bands I really enjoyed were Drain STH, Fear
Factory, Godsmack, Slayer, Rob Zombie, and of course Black Sabbath. Zombie
is a great entertainer, and Slayer were simply fantastic.
When Sabbath came out, that was all she wrote. These guys are still
powerful and loud. When most hard rock/metal bands get older, they wimp
out, but not Sabbath. Ozzy still has the energy of a person in his
twenties. Not one disappointing moment. They rocked and rocked very hard.
There was not a sitting person in the whole place, and it was packed.
I can't wait for Tony Iommi's solo project to come out. And I will have to
get get Geezer's cd. I also want to get the 2nd installment of Nativity in
Black. I hope its as good as the first. Later

Subject: Ozzfest 99' VA. June 4th
Date: Sat, 05 Jun 1999 10:23:58 PDT
WOW, WOW, WOW, WOW,
I just got back from Ozzfest 99' in Manasass Virginia. THe Fest last year
could not compare to the carnage and all out raw energy displayed at this
years event. Going into the event my OPENED water bottle was confinscated
because no OPEN containers are allowed inside. SO I quickly hurried over to
buy a $3.00 water bottle, can we say rip off. Anyway I met a few of my
friends and hurried over to check out the insane t-shirt prices. A band was
playing on second stage but I did not go over there. Then I heard that
SLipKnot was playing so I rushed over to the insanity. I started Juping
around and going nuts. After they played an overpowering set. It was time
for me to meet them. I got an autograph from the Guitar player James and
shook hands with the rest of the band. THen I heard the System of a Down
where on the main stage. I immediatly rushed over to hear them. THeir music
is stunning and their message is kind of like Rage Against the Machine.
Truely awesome. THen after meeting some interesting media types (trying to
work my way backstage for free) I heard that GODSMACK was comming on. THeir
music was good as always. I enjoyed hearing from a WICCAN follower who has
met the band and told me all about the band. She is 45 years old and still
rockin, I love that. After managing to get some free food from a Backstage
patron that gets the free catering I headed over to hear DEFTONES. Man they
were OFF. I have seen DEFTONES one other time. It appeared to me that he
was way too drunk or disturbed or both. THey just did not get the crowd
into it. Fortunatly ROB ZOMBIE came out with a powerful display. DUrring
the start of THunder Kiss 65' The lead guitar player had a little problem
with his guitar and smashed it to pieces. THen ZOmbie gave the guitar to a
fan, that was mugged for it. After that I proceeded to the backstage area
to talk to the Media people once again. THis time I met the Man who
anounced the bands all day and he gave me a TONY IOMMI Pick. I was very
HAPPY with this. He is an awesome dude. Then the sirens went off. IT was
time, 2nd time being treated with musical insanity from the masters of all
heavy metal, BLACK SABBATH! The music just brought out the energy of the
crowd. It was an amazing performance. At times I would jump on top of the
seats in front of me and whistle the loudest. Ozzy and Tony both pointed at
me and laughed. I was just going NUTS. THis concert was way better than the
PITTSBURG SABBATH show where a lot of people sat and hugged. THESE were
real SABBATH fans at OZZFEST. After Parinoid the usual streamers were shot
all over the crowd I was exhausted and had to go see a friend at the
backstage entrance. As I was sitting there talking Ozzy's son came out of
the backstage area. I shook his hand and told him his dad was the greatest.
I asked if he would tell him JIM says HI. He said he promised and I
laughed. THen it was time to go home and wait for the Pittsburg Ozzfest.
See all the wonderdful fans there. Later from here...
