Notes

  • This was recorded on the March 30, 2007 gig at Radio City Music Hall in New York City, hence the name.
  • The show was recorded in high definition in 2007, but was initially only released on SD DVD in 2007.  The HD Blu-Ray was not released until 2011.
  • There are actually four releases.  The 2 CD set, the DVD release, the blu-ray release, and a combination pack (“Deluxe Edition”) with some tour memorabilia (a tour program, backstage laminate, glossy photos of the band and other tour items) available only through Rhino’s website.
  • The set list was originally going to be longer than this, but problems with union workers in New York city caused the set list to not be what it was supposed to be.  Here’s an email from Geezer Butler about that situation:Unfortunately Radio City was the only night we could have played the extended set, but as has been documented, the unions were so strict, we were only allowed 15 minutes for sound check- that includes all instruments, balances, monitors, p.a., lights, camera angles etc. We didn’t actually have time to run through ear in the Wall, which was the only song missing from the final show. To include that at some other time would mean bringing the whole video crew, sound truck and engineers etc, which would be unfeasible for one track. Blame the unions, not us- at least we did an unrehearsed Lonely is the Word [and just in case you didn’t know, its a federal offense to disobey the unions, because it comes under safety laws- which means we could have been arrested as well as fined millions of dollars-go figure!].Unfortunately, i agree with most unions because they give workers rights, without which we’d all be working as slaves.Geezer

You seem to be missing the 2LP gatefold vinyl edition put out by SPV in Germany (SPV 98101 2LP).
Something of a left-hand job, the four sides of vinyl excludes several tracks from the CD and DVD editions, and on the inner bags Geezer’s notes are repeated under Iommi’s photo, while Appice doesn’t even get a photo!
Here’s the break down of the vinyl sides. Naturally, where a track has been left out, there’s a fade between the track, which always seems a criminal mood breaker on a live album.
Side 1: E5150 (fades out!), The Mob Rules, Children Of The Sea, Lady Evil, (intro to I included too!)
Side 2: The Sign Of The Southern Cross, Voodoo
Side 3: Computer God, Falling Off The Edge of The World, Die Young
Side 4: Heaven And Hell, Neon Knights
I’d really like to know who OK’d this kind of product; sadly I only realised after I’d bought the thing.

    • Just got the SPV vinyl too. Same release no. LP label says 2008, back of gatefold says 2007.

It’s got the same innerbags you mention, Rasmus. Dio,Iommi,Butler and a live pic with all four members – Geezers notes twice.

But – side 1 has E5150, After All (The Dead), The Mob Rules, Children Of The Sea, Lady Evil. No fades, but keyboard cut after Lady Evil.
Side 2 has The Devil Cried introduced, but not featured.
Side 3 has Shadow Of The Wind introduced, but not featured and then cut to Die Young introduction. The introduction to Heaven And Hell begins at the end of side 3 – cut – continues on side 4.

Minor details, maybe, but it could have been fixed to a better result.

You also seem to be missing the European 2CD/DVD edition which differs from the Deluxe Edition. It comes in a DVD sized slip case with a 4 panel digipack. It containsa booklet, the 4 individual photos of Ronnie, Tony, Geezer and Vinnie, a poster of the cover and a backstage pass. Very nice edition and quite cheaper… I bought mine for 30 euro (about 40 dollars)

  3. I was at this show for my 40th birthday. It was amazing. This was the first time I saw sabbath since born again. I have to thank my son for those tickets. Best birthday present ever.

  4. Finally a live album/concert from the Mob Rules line-up with no Ozzy-era songs on it. How can a live-set of tracks from the Heaven and Hell and Mob Rules albums be anything but great? Two good new songs also to keep it fresh – in addition to an amazing version of “I”.
Great to see this line-up of the band getting together again and recording a new album after this recording.
