BLACK SABBATH EXPANDS SABOTAGE
Super Deluxe Edition Of The Band’s Sixth Album Features Newly Remastered Original Plus A Complete Live Show Recorded During 1975 Tour
Both 4-CD And 4-LP + 7-Inch Versions Will Be Available From BMG On June 11.
Black Sabbath was embroiled in a protracted legal battle with its former manager in 1975 when the band started recording its sixth studio album, Sabotage. The group felt sabotaged at every turn – hence the album’s title – but that feeling helped fuel the intensity of the new music they were making. In spite of the distractions, the band created one of the most dynamic – and underappreciated – albums of its legendary career.
BMG pays tribute to the patron saints of heavy metal with a collection that includes a newly remastered version of the original album along with a complete live show recorded during the band’s 1975 tour. SABOTAGE: SUPER DELUXE EDITION will be available on June 11 as a 4-CD set and a 4-LP set that includes the same music on 180-gram vinyl plus a bonus 7-inch with the single edit for “Am I Going Insane (Radio)” and “Hole In The Sky” on the flipside, with artwork replicating the very rare Japanese release of the single. Both the 4-CD and 4-LP versions are available for pre-order now: https://blacksabbathband.lnk.to/sabotagedlxPR
The newly remastered version of the original album will be available via digital download and streaming services on the same day. Click https://blacksabbathband.lnk.to/goinginsanePR to listen to the newly remastered version of Am I Going Insane (Radio), available today digitally.
Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward recorded Sabotage in London and Brussels and co-produced the album with Mike Butcher. The eight songs were released first in the U.S. in July 1975, and then in the U.K. that September. Certified gold in America and Silver in the UK, Sabotage earned positive reviews for hard-hitting tracks like “Hole In The Sky” and “Symptom Of The Universe,” as well as more experimental music like “Supertzar,” which featured harp, Mellotron, and the English Chamber Choir.
SABOTAGE: SUPER DELUXE EDITION introduces 16 live tracks (13 of which are previously unreleased) that were recorded in 1975 during the quartet’s U.S. tour for the album. The performances include songs that span the group’s career, from the title track to its 1970 debut Black Sabbath to “Spiral Architect” and “Sabbra Cadabra” from its previous album, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath (1973). Sabotage is represented as well with live takes of “Hole In The Sky” and “Megalomania.”
The music is accompanied by in-depth liner notes that tell the story of the album through quotes from band members and the music media along with rare photos and press clippings from the era. Also included in the package is a 1975 Madison Square Garden replica concert book and Sabotage 1975 Tour colour poster.

Wonder why they skipped over Sabbath Bloody Sabbath deluxe version?
I’ve heard that other outstanding titles from the original ‘Ozzy Era’ of the Group – their debut album, Master of Reality and Sabbath Bloody Sabbath – will also be released as Super Deluxe Editions at some point.
I’m hoping that SBS includes studio outtakes and/or demos; I have Deluxe Editions of the other 2 aforementioned titles (from 2009) with bonus tracks so I’m unsure what bonus material might be included on upcoming SD Editions of them.
Ted
Maybe, and that’s wishful thinking, they are trying to secure the California Jam recording.
I was hoping for a similar release to Vol 4 Super Deluxe, perhaps with a louder version of “Blow on a Jug”
Blow on a Jug is on this. I asked the record label about it. But it’s never been listed on any version it has ever appeared on. Always been a secret track.
I’m just wondering if there is a louder version of it out there. Mike Butcher had microphones all over the studio and he picked it up. I’d like to hear a more audible version than what’s on the album. Too bad no outtakes on this one.
On another note, with Vol 4 and Sabotage coming out, one has to believe that there is a SBS Super Deluxe in the pipeline. I just hope they don’t stop there…
Actually, it was listed on Japanese versions of the CD releases (Strange Days etc) on the inner printed White Japanese paper sheet insert (s).
Also, while I’m here, I understand Tony Iommi is working on box sets for the Tony Martin era of the band apparently with quite a lot of unreleased material mentioned. We’ll see.
I like that they are not releasing these in order. It’s more exciting to not know what’s coming next. The live album looks fantastic. It’s great to have a set list that’s so much more varied. No other versions of tracks but that’s ok. It’s just great that our band is putting these out. I hope all the albums will get this treatment. Much as I love Paranoid it’s high time the other albums had a moment in the sun. Absolutely cannot wait to have this beauty.
Disc 4 seems a bit pointless and short, it could have been added on to the 1st disc – Record Companies yet again!! Then there’s the cost of it – enough said. I dare say Warner’s will also release the same thing at a future date – Warner Bros and BMG seem to have a pact at the moment with Sabbath releases. Still, should be interesting.
They skipped over the self titled first album and Master Of Reality. I’ll take what I can get when it comes to Sabbath. Very cool that Blow On A Jug is included. I wish there were more studio outtakes instead of concerts on these releases though. I love the live in the studio stuff.
Are the live recordings the Asbury Park gig by chance?
Any details of the live show, maybe Asbury Park? If yes, it’s a great show, one of the best that the original lineup was ever recorded. Better late than never, it deserves to be released officially.
Where are the multitrack tapes? Is it so expensive to do a surround mix? He Steven Wilson, come on, do it for the fans!
Probably because they don’t have a multitrack live recording from the SBS tour to make up bonus material.
Why no Sabbath Bloody Sabbath deluxe edition?
Sabbath truly peaked during the Sabotage tour. There wasn’t a band in the world that came close to sounding like they did live in the mid 70’s. Ozzy sounded great and super powerful, Tony was tuned to C# and had that Laney/Ampeg monster tone, Geezer used an 8 string bass with his flying fingers and Bill slammed that snare and ride like they owed him money…Can’t wait to blast the live stuff!!! ,,/, ,/,,
Black Sabbath 4ever ,Sabatage was always a favourite,Meglomania, Thrill of it all and the rest, especially the outro of Symptom of the Universe ,long live Black Sabbath, all 4 original members are still with us today.Best Wishes
Honestly – this “super deluxe” set feels like a rip-off. a remastered album and a live set for £80?????? Surprised there isn’t more resistance to this sort of conning fo the fans. I love an expanded box set but I struggle to think of one that appears to deliver less value for money than this…..
Vinyl packaging is poor , not strong enough to hold the vinyls, the usual rips in the packaging. Great sounding vinyl a little bit of an upgrade on the bootleg of Asbury park, yes it’s the se show.
The Asbury Park 1975 live discs on this release are lossy-sourced. I am not joking. The frequency spectrum cuts at 16 kHz exactly the same way it does with MP3 lineage. The discs seem to be sourced from one of the earlier, lossy-sourced commercial bootlegs of this show that came out around 2003 before the lossless master reel transfer came into wider circulation. It is incredibly unprofessional to use such a source and sell it as CD quality. Buyers should ask to get their money back and complain to Rhino and the band. Fantastic release – the live set is from Madison Square Garden. Sabbath at one of their peaks!
this set is poorly done. MP3 sourced concert is unforgivable. We want replacement discs.
